The importance of pursuing your purpose

Review and insight from the Philosopher’s Note of A Joseph Campbell Companion

A Joseph Campbell Companion: Reflections on the Art of Living

Joseph Campbell is one of the leading philosophers on the Power of Myth and how it sculpts nearly every aspect of our lives, he coined the term Follow your Bliss. What exactly does that mean, let’s dig deeper…

Follow your Bliss

“There is no security in
following the call
to adventure.”
~ Joseph Campbell

It is simply this. You need to get off your butt and follow what makes you slaphappy, ridiculously giddy and makes your heartbeat skip a beat.

What makes you happy, what brings you so much Joy that your smile lights up a room, pursue that dream, and see your life expand and become what your destiny needs you to become!

Joseph continues: “Nothing is exciting if you know what the outcome is going to be.” So, whatever excites you and stimulates your senses…pursue that!

What happens if you end up not Following your bliss?

Jesus summed it up well:

“If you bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth will save you. If you don’t bring forth what is inside you, what you don’t bring forth will destroy you.”

The Hero’s Journey, or should I say YOUR Hero’s Journey

If you are following someone else, it is clear, you ARE NOT following your hero’s journey, you are following someone else’s. ”If you follow someone else’s way, you are not going to realize your potential.” Society will not help you and even tries to break us so we fit into society’s mold. I implore you to NOT go down the route of mediocrity or the ordinary, but to follow your own truth, you will thank me once you have found it, and have started following it!!!

Shedding your skin – Crucifiction is needed for Resurrection

To Follow your Bliss, your must get rid of the old you, or shed your skin to become the new and improved you, as Joseph said:

Jul-13 6 We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to accept the life that is waiting for us...Joseph Campbell

“What will they think of me? — Must be put aside for bliss.”
~ Joseph Campbell

Be a Yes Man and Jump into your Life’s unique adventure

So, once you have found what tickles your fancy more than anything else, what is the next step?  You need to jump into your adventure and forget the size of the Chasm and the fear of the unknown. As you face your fears, you will see that they have very little power over you anymore.

As Brian Johnson notes: ‘The hallmark of the advanced soul is a healthy relationship to fear.’

Emerson tells us:

“Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain.”

Love your fate

Nietzsche, explains it best as at a certain moment in his life, the idea came to him of what he called ‘the love of your fate.’ Whatever your fate is, whatever the hell happens, you say, ‘This is what I need.‘ When, this happens, and you go through life following your bliss, this is when you can truly rejoice in being alive as your life is now in harmony with your true and deepest purpose. Any disaster that you can survive is an improvement in your character, your stature, and your life. And the world needs you to find your passion today, and come alive.

There is so much to be done now to help our fragile planet restore her balance, and more and more people need to wake up to their own life’s purpose…to follow their bliss.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this and learned from it as much as I have enjoyed and learned from writing this, and I hope it shows that I have found my bliss in teaching and educating people to the need of radical changes in how our society functions, and will be continuing my education with a new post next week, as I am following my bliss to a nice little vacation on the beach for the next couple of days.
