The Power of Now

This is a new post derived by one of my earlier blogposts from late 2013. I wanted to make it even better!

So as my usual major posts, this will be a review, of Eckhart Tolle’s book with help from Brian Johnson’s Philosophers Note, that you should definitely check out. It is a bit like a Cliff Note for spiritual and inspirational books!

I have actually read this book some time ago, so I have the book, and the Philosopher’s Notes to give you some valuable insight on the importance and the Power of Now, of living in the present.

The Power Of Now

“You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold.

That is how important you are!”  ~ Eckhart Tolle

YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS…CONNECTING TO DIVINE INTELLIGENCE

Eckhart invites us to observe our thoughts and to start taking notes of old repetitive thought patterns that keeps us at a standstill in our life. These thoughts when changed, begin to change your life. The more you stop identifying yourself to these thoughts, the more you can start nurturing your deeper, authentic self, and start living a more profound and deeper existence!

“I would say about 80 to 90 percent of most people’s thinking is not only repetitive and useless, but because of its dysfunctional and often negative nature, much of it is also harmful. Observe your mind and you will find this to be true. It causes serious leakage of vital energy.”~ Eckhart Tolle

It is so important that once you become aware of a seed of negativity arising in your consciousness, you need to stop it as you are planting seeds in your mind all the time…and if you want to have a positive life, you need to seed more positive thoughts! And the more you take notes of them when they are born, the more you can weed them out while they are less harmful than full blown negative thoughts. If we want to enjoy a beautiful garden of consistent joy and love and appreciation and all that goodness, we’ve GOTTA stop planting weed seeds, as Brian Johnson puts it.

CLOCK TIME VS. PSYCHOLOGICAL TIME

What I get from this part of Tolle’s teachings is that if you remain in Clock time, or real time, you are in the Now, and aware of your thoughts, whilst being in Psychological time means you are dwelling in the past or obsessing over a future goal or outcome. It is amazing to have goals in life, however, well it is to visualize them and their outcomes, the best way to realize them is to do a little bit every day, in the Now, to achieve them…and not to obsess over them which will just get you caught in thoughts…

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY & CHOOSE

“Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences. No excuses. No negativity. No psychic pollution. Keep your inner space clear.”]

This blogpost may help you understand how to better master your desires and control your destiny.

Tolle compares living in another time than the now like filling your bowl with foods you know are crap. Instead of eating it, just stop, just realize that the now is the only time you have ever lived… Except, in reality, many people dwell in their thoughts, are stressed out because of fear and worry of outcomes that may never happen.

When you live fully in the now and get out of Psychological time, that is when you can truly start following your bliss, and pursuing your goals, and appreciating the journey as you approach your goal. Once you stop worrying about the outcome of your actions, you will have more chances of achieving them, as you will be fully present in the Now, and allowing yourself connection with your deeper divine self, and have access to the intelligence of the Universe.

“All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present.”

Lao-Tzu the philosopher and author of the Chinese classic Tao te Ching sums it up very nicely with this quote:

I am actively looking for people wanting to make a positive difference in the world and their world!

  1. This is a well-written post that touches on some of the most important points.
We can read this kind of advice over and over again, perhaps a hundred times and we’ll never get anything out of it if we aren’t serious about making a change in our lives. The whole world has taken this same approach for thousands or perhaps millions of years and it hasn’t changed a single thing.

The power of now can be very hard work to actually realize but the beauty of it is that inside of this continual effort you become very aware of what you’ve been doing to yourself.

Words are important in life, we have to use them to communicate with others. Thought(s) are also very important to our survival; when it comes to these deeply spiritual matters however, thoughts and words become a trap. Put all of those hindrances aside and find out what it means to feel it. Deep down. What does it mean to be? When a man falls in love with a woman his mind is filled with love and there’s no effort involved, the feeling and intensity of it are the drive.

Thanks to the author for a well written piece on the reminder of how vitally important it is to live in the right here and now.
