Well, I am back for a new blog about Deepak Chopra, one of my favorite mentors and authors, book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. I am reviewing and pulling out the main insights from the book, via some Philosopher’s Notes…(posted in July 2013, updated today.)

What are Philosopher’s Notes?

First of all, let me give you a heads up on what exactly are Philosopher’s Notes?

Experience a NEW way to Upgrade Your Reading Habit And Soak Up the Wisdom of a Transformational Book a Day, in 20 Mins.   From the MindValley site.

MindValley is a leading personal development content producer, and I really love their ideas about personal growth. Check out their page at the above link.  So, to summarize, Philosopher’s Notes does to transformational books, what Cliffnotes has done for your textbook, shortened them, and summarized the insight into a 6 page PDF or a short audio MP3 read to you by Brian Johnson, an incredible author, and philosopher and founder of en*theos.

Brian Johnson, the author of the Philosopher’s Note, explains that he has read this book a number of times, and believes it is the book with the most important spiritual message that he has read, and he has read many.

Why blog about the spiritual side of Success?

I would like to first say that I truly believe that we are in the process of awakening as a species to realize that we are more than our bodies, our countries, our minds, and at the moment, the powers that be do not want us to wake up. They prefer keeping us divided by nationality, by race, by class or wealth, by education, as division is the best way to keep people in line and under their control.

I also believe that the new age group of practitioners (lightworkers, healers, clairvoyants, and a number of others that believe we are on the wrong path), have a lot of difficulties understanding that money is a tool and thus is not bad or evil onto itself. Its uses can be good or bad, depending on the person using it and for what purpose.

What I truly believe is you can be a success in life, AND still provide true lasting value to others in a deeper sense than offering them the latest gadget or Gucci footwear… I believe this book and review will help you understand that you can be wildly successful and still offer your messages of love, hope, compassion and peace! I think Deepak Chopra is a great indicator to this as his Success is worldwide and his books are an inspiration to millions.

Success in life could be defined as the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realization of worthy goals. Success is the ability to fulfill your desires with effortless ease. And yet success, including the creation of wealth, has always
been considered to be a process that requires hard work, and it is often considered to be at the expense of others. We need a more spiritual approach to success and affluence, which is the abundant flow of all good things to you. With the knowledge
and practice of spiritual law, we put ourselves in harmony with nature and create with carefreeness, joy, and love.”
~ Deepak Chopra from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

The main premise of his book is that to have true lasting success and happiness, you must learn how to manifest your Highest Self!

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

1.Law of Pure Potentiality

Find the stillness. Connect to your highest Self.

2.Law of Giving

Give what you want!!

3.Law of “Karma”

Plant good seeds.

4.Law of Least Effort

Acceptance. Responsibility. Defenselessness.

5.Law of Intention/Desire

One-pointed intention.

6.Law of Detachment

No attachment.

7.Law of “Dharma”

What’s your purpose?

 1. Law of Pure Potentiality

The Ancient Greek aphorism ”Know thyself” sums up this Law quite well!  Once you know that everything is potential, and you have well identified your goals and purpose in life, then you can fulfill your potential!

The author then goes to quote Ralph Waldo Emerson one of his favorite authors:

“There’s nothing capricious in nature, and the implanting of a desire indicates that its  gratification is in the constitution of the creature that feels it.”

It very much resembles the Law of Manifestation, which is basically the Law of Attraction’s older wiser and more action oriented, Older Brother!

He goes on to add that: “Your true Self, which is your spirit, your soul, is completely free of fear, control and other people’s opinion. It is immune to criticism, it is unfearful of any challenge, and it feels beneath no one.”

The biggest challenge, Deepak admits, especially for the modern Westerner is to BE STILL. Success will come and manifest itself faster if you can be still. The only way to truly empty your mind of thoughts is to sit down and meditate, which he recommends, 30m in the AM AND…30m in the PM.    I personally do not have a particular meditation routine yet, but am still able to slow down, and be still during the day. Working from home can help you be still, and if you are curious to know more about this side of me, please check my About Me section above.

 2. Law of Giving

The 2nd Law of Success is pretty straightforward and goes like this: if you want something, anything, in your life, you must first give it away! Brilliant!

Energy flows. Or it stagnates. If we want more of something in our life, we need to keep it flowing—whether it’s money, love, appreciation, attention or kindness.

Let’s continue, as this law is quite self-explanatory…but just realize that many of us think of what we want to get, but to get is to give, so give it out first, and one last thing that is awesome is that Deepak says: the best way to jump start this energy in your life is to give something to every person with whom you come into contact. It doesn’t have to be something material—it could be a compliment or a prayer or a flower.

3. Law of “Karma”

Again, you have probably heard about Karma before, in situations that came out bad for you, Karma was a Bi..ch…yeah, or what goes around comes around…The circle of life…all about this Law of Karma.

The law of cause and effect. The concept that we reap what we sow. Even if you have heard this saying a hundred times, do you LIVE it? Are you aware of the seeds you are planting with each thought and each action you take?

It’s very much about personal responsibility on a Universal Scale!  Watch your thoughts…this quote sums it up well, and even though it may not come from Emerson, it sure fits his line of thinking:

Watch your thoughts for they become words,
watch your words for they become actions,
watch your actions, for they become habits,
watch your habits for they become your character,
watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

On to the next law:

4. Law of Least Effort

Deepak sums it up beautifully in this quote:

“This means that your acceptance of this moment is total and complete. You accept things as they are, not as you wish they were in this moment. This is important to understand. You can wish for things in the future to be different, but in this moment you have to accept things as they are.”
~ Deepak Chopra

This law is grounded in three components: acceptance, responsibility, and defenselessness.

Don't stress the could haves

Acceptance is really about accepting the reality as it is, not as you wish it were. It is fine to hope for a better future, and thus make plans today to attain that future, but you ALWAYS need to accept your life and reality right now, as it truly is.

Responsibility, as we mentioned in the Law of Karma, is all about taking responsibility for your life up to this point, it is a culmination of all of your thoughts, actions, and reactions up to this point.  Stop giving blame, as this is useless for your advancement, but realize that all that you have become is a result of all of your previous thoughts and actions!

And finally, for Defenseless, Deepak resumes it well by saying: “When you remain open to all points of view—not rigidly attached to only one—your dreams and desires will flow with nature’s desires… you can be sure when the season is right, your desires will manifest.”

 5. Law of Intention/Desire

If you want true Success, you need to be able to fix your intention on the desired outcome and not the obstacles to that outcome. Deepak continues: “One-pointed intention means holding your attention to the intended outcome with such unbending purpose that you absolutely refuse to allow obstacles to consume and dissipate the focused quality of your attention. There is a total and complete exclusion of all obstacles from your consciousness. You are able to maintain an unshakable serenity while being committed to your goal with intense passion.”

His biggest differences between Intention which is Pure, and desire is the attachment that desire has.  If you can remain detached and go with the flow of intention, you will notice how much easier manifestation of these intentions come into being, which really brings us to his sixth law:

6. Law of Detachment

Deepak sums up this law beautifully:

“The Law of Detachment says that in order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This doesn’t mean that you give up the intention to create your desire. You don’t give up the intention, and you don’t give up the desire. You give up your attachment to the result.”

So, let go of the expectations, dream the biggest dream that gets your heart pounding, and go for it, one step at a time, and see your desired results manifest themselves faster and faster, as you master the Law of Detachment.

The seventh and last Spiritual Law of Success is:

7. Law of “Dharma”

So, Brian Johnson said that this Law was the Law that got him back on his own Life Purpose, which at the time of the reading, was to write these Philosophers’ Notes and to share them to the world, and sums the Law like this; each person has his or her own purpose in this life, and the highest calling for everyone is to find this calling and to follow it with all his heart, Joseph Campbell said that it was to Follow your Bliss ! And I believe, I have just found the subject of my next big blog post: A Joseph Campbell Companion.

Jan-30 1 Apr-4-16 RP Maslow's Pyramid of needs, when you want to reach for the highest ideals of yourself

Abraham Maslow says: “Musicians must make music, artists must paint, poets must write if they are to be ultimately at peace with themselves. What human beings can be, they must be. They must be true to their own nature. This need we may call self-actualization.”

“You have a talent that is unique in its expression, so unique that there’s no one else alive on this planet that has that talent, or that expression of that talent. This means that there’s one thing you can do, and one way of doing it, that is better than anyone else on this entire planet.”
~ Deepak Chopra

Deepak concludes that “When you combine the ability to express your unique talent with service to humanity, then you make full use of The Law of Dharma.”

So, what are your passions in life, follow these, and you will live your bliss, and allow others to do the same. Imagine having a population of awakened individuals all following their bliss. Imagine how the world will be, change begins with you, so get started today!

If you have enjoyed and learned from this blogpost, please share it as much as you can and make sure you like it!!!!  Thank you so much!
