Musings of a Natural Philosopher — Light (a sample) – Book One

2. INTRODUCTION

Let me take you on a journey…

Let me give you a heads up on my past and my interest in the external world and the internal world and how they are related. I’ve always been a very curious child, having interest in many subjects, like astronomy, philosophy, the environment and nature, history, ancient civilizations, geography and travel. I was really big into comic books, fantasy and sci-fi novels, and so my imagination has always been very fertile. I was an above average student in school until I got to University, and my social life picked up so my studies suffered a bit, and I’ve never been keen on any type of formal training, which was most likely the reason why I never really did great in school just keeping above the curve.

Deep ecology and my initial awakening (pt 1)

Growing up in a small town called Knowlton in the 1970s was an interesting experience, to say the least. With a population of about 1000 inhabitants at the time, I was an only child, quite the loner and was always very in tune with nature and the forest, spending much of my free time wandering the forests around my house. I would climb to the top of a 50-foot pine so I could have an unencumbered view of our beautiful Brome Lake less than half a mile away. The swaying of the treetops from the mild summer breezes would give me some exhilaration but so would the breathtaking view and the thrill and danger of being so high up.

What are we without our labels, our titles, our masks?

How can you find your authentic self, your true purpose on Earth if you are surviving off of work that often just seems so repetitive and boring. Where you get little to no true satisfaction, following a daily grind, helping build someone else’s dream? Perhaps it is time to delve deeper into self, and perhaps meditate or spend time alone for some true introspection, to take time to observe one’s mental state, while in a spiritual context it may refer to the examination of one’s soul, and to find out what makes you come alive.
